What You Can Do to Help Deserving Orphans in Need

Just about everybody knows that the sick and the needy orphans are out there, they may be far away, across the seven seas, or maybe even in our very own neighborhoods and backyards. Toddlers, infants, babies, pre-teens and even teenagers who for whatever reason have been left all alone, to fend for themselves in a world that seems to have abandoned them completely.

This is why these innocent children with no blood connections or even the law backing them, are left to live their lives almost entirely at the mercy of uncaring strangers. What little they have, such as a crib or a cot, can be easily taken away from them and given to others, while they are rendered destitute. Just imagine living a life of such terrible uncertainty so early on in life. A life in which nothing and no one in any way, belong to you at all.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also, faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

James 2:14-17

It does not always have to be this way though. Yes, it is not possible for us to adopt the literally hundreds of millions of young children who need help and a family they can call their own. But there are several other ways to reach out and help those in need. While adoption is the best possible solution, but when that is not really possible, then there are several other things you can do to ensure that the stellar work of helping orphans in need is always continued and more and more such youngsters are saved from a plight and a world they did not create nor wish to live in. Here are a few ways through which you can also get involved in the lives of these children.

Actively try and seek them out

On no account whatever, should you allow yourself to forget these poor and helpless souls? Even if you cannot initiate adoption proceedings on your own, surely you know some else who can. And even if you cannot directly help them yourself, then you can seek out and find the people who can actually do the needful. Your role in taking care of orphans will become progressively clearer the more you dive deep into their world. There are various online resources and blogs that you can sign up for and subscribe to, that is absolutely dedicated to improving a collective lot of orphans worldwide.

If you cannot do anything then at least pray diligently for them. After all, their needs are far more than ours. You can pray that god-fearing families also step up to adopt them, that the people who are responsible for their care and upbringing are both kinds to them as well as committed to their upliftment. Pray that their basic needs are met, pray for their health, pray that they are protected from predators who care not a whit or their cries for mercy. And above all else, also pray for divine guidance concerning your very own role in mitigating the orphan crisis, all over the world.

“And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness and your gloom will become like midday.”

Isaiah 58:10

Adopt a child in the virtual world

Visit a website site that also lists “waiting for children” and go right ahead and pick out a child as your own. Take printouts of the pictures of the child that you can frame and place on your mantelpiece as well as on your workstation desk. You can even stick the pictures on your fridge too. But it’s not just a picture alone that can make a difference, rather you support him or her financially, while simultaneously talking about the child with everyone around you. You can also tell them how they can help out in this regard.  You can also ask for donations to a grant fund that you create for him. If you generate enough hype, the odds are that the kid will eventually be adopted.

“One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed.”

Proverbs 19:17

Volunteer work

You can work as a volunteer for very many organizations and boarding houses as well as orphanages. You can visit them, meet the children, hold prayer vigils and bring them gifts of love and care. In time you will become really attached to them and they will be attached to you in return. If you do it long enough, you yourself just might end up adopting a child and giving them the happiness that they so richly deserve.

We, at Tommy’s Team, encourage and help orphans in need so that they too can live their lives in a sheltered and loving environment.
