“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

James 1:27

If you have a heart that breaks for the abandoned, the orphaned, or the abused children who have no one to help them or deliver them from their squalor and their suffering, then you just might end up wondering what is it that I can do to help these poor and impoverished orphans?

If you really feel their pain and want to follow the path that the good Lord has already shown us then the best possible way to do so is to reach out and help these poor and helpless little ones. After all, it is your compassion only that stands in the way of them growing up alone and unloved.

As a matter of fact, there are actually multiple ways for you to achieve what can only be classified as truly heroic acts in their own right. Let us take a closer look, at how you can go about ameliorating their lot in life.

“And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.”

Deuteronomy 14:29

o Rescue and then proceed to care for orphans

Orphans are all around us if we but care to look for them that is. They all require a loving heart and a caring hand and people who will envelop them in their arms and shield them from the horrors of a world they were not meant to live in. From the lowliest and most backward nations in sub-Saharan Africa to right here in our own native land, there are just so many kids who need help.

You can look around and will almost certainly find kids that need to be rescued from the streets, forced labor, abusive situations and so much more. And once you have found them, you will find it very easy to care for them as you would, for your very own children as well.  And if they need anything desperately in life, it is to be found and rescued.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling”

Psalm 68:5

“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?”

James 2:15-16

o Feeding the malnourished

Many, if not most such children have never really known when precisely will they be able to eat their very next meal. But all that can end if you were to reach out and feed them on your own. We have so much that we end up wasting away. But remember that half-eaten hamburger that you have casually thrown in the garbage, might end up being eaten by a poor half-starved orphan kid, who may have to pick it up from the dustbin and brush away the rats and roaches before he can even get a chance to eat it.

Surely, you would not want that to happen as a God-Fearing Christian. Just take that kid to your home and feed him not so much with food, but also nourish him with your love, your kindness, and your respect. Apart from earning his or her undying gratitude, you will also become exalted in the eyes of the good Lord.

“He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.”

Deuteronomy 10:18

o Give them the gift of education

While giving them a meal is a great thing to do in it is own right, but nevertheless, it is equally important that you give them the means of earning their own meals, courtesy the development of their own indigenous capabilities. As a matter of fact, the acquisition of a quality education for many such orphaned children had hitherto been an unattainable dream.

And they could do little else but observe the kids from a more privileged background going to school, while they were condemned to rummaging through dustbins for things to eat and wear. But it does not always have to be this way. With the help of your intrinsical philanthropist nature, it is very much possible for just such kids to get a shot at a life they could only have dreamed off. Only now you can also help turn those dreams into a living, breathing reality. All they need is a chance. No more... No less
