Orphans Have No One To Turn To: Except You!

“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.”

Saint Teresa

Going to sleep with a full stomach is the eternal birthright of just about every individual anywhere in the world. But this holds true even more so for the poor orphans and their widowed mothers who are made to accept the horrors of a world they did not ever create or wish to live in. Here, it is ‘our’ responsibility as Christians and as moral and upright human beings who have been who have been blessed with so many of the Lord’s benedictions, to share the same with our far less fortunate brethren, not just here, but wherever their pain and suffering calls out to us.

After all, it is both our religious obligation as God-fearing Christians as well as our moral obligation as human beings, to share all that we take for granted, such as good food and plenty of money to spend while living, in a country that is as safe as it is secure.

Ultimately, we have to be cognizant of our own responsibilities. Global warming (for instance) along with its vast residue of searing temperatures and droughts, is also due to the massive consumerism of the west and the near endless demands it puts on the environment that often results in climatic changes all over the world. And yes, that does include places that are far more vulnerable to such changes, than we could ever be. In this sense at least, we are both, directly and indirectly, responsible for helping the unfortunate orphans whose world has been torn apart and rent asunder, through no fault of their own.

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before he will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...”

Matthew 25:31-46

The onus of the responsibility of creating a world free from hunger and poverty is and has always been ours, to a great extent. We have to create a world where the destitute and the disabled, the widows and the orphans can also afford live a truly dignified life and have full access to both healthcare and food so that they will not have to go to sleep with empty bellies and sick bodies.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also, faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

James 2:14-17

In the light of the above holy verse we can clearly see for ourselves, the seminal importance of sharing all that we have with the less fortunate, especially the poor and destitute widows and the orphans as well as the disabled persons who are not in a position to take care of their own and without our help, they may well end up being condemned to die because of starvation and disease due to a lack of resources.

It does not have to be remote and faraway places alone that need our urgent intercession. On the contrary, it is also possible to work closer to a home where there are many people who are forced to fend for themselves because they have no one else to turn to. There are waifs who have run away from abusive homes and negligent parents, there are street kids who are forced to scavenge in the wastebaskets for food and other times.

Yes, they exist and they want to be found so desperately. They too, want someone to put a loving arm on their shoulders and feed them and hug them and help these God’s children out of their squalor and their misery. They are all around us, if only we were to care to look and see with the eyes of kindness and love that the good Lord has given us so that we can share the many gifts that ‘He’ has deemed fit to give us.

And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness and your gloom will become like midday.”

Isaiah 58:10

Conclusion

In the light of the above, we can easily see that is an urgent need of the times to help out such orphans to the best of our abilities. In fact, we have to help these poor souls in need, quite simply because they have no one else to turn to, expect those caring individuals who have their welfare at heart.

We, at Tommy’s Team, encourage and help orphans in need so that they too acquire an education. We also actively work to make the community around us a better place to live in and would want and like “you” to send us “your” ideas so that we can continue our mission of making this world more respective towards orphans in need.
